Often referred as ‘ Jewel of Vidarbha ’, the Tadoba national park is Maharashtra’s oldest national park.The word ‘Tadoba’ is quite a unique name in itself. The Tadoba National Park was named in the name of God, ' Taru'. This God is worshipped by the local tribes of the region who inhabit the dense forest of Tadoba and Andheri.
The place has historical importance as the locals have constructed a building in the name of the village chief, who was believed to be killed in a mythological encounter with the Tiger.
Tadoba National Park is a large park covered with lush, green forestlands at a distance of 45 Km from Chandrapur at Chimur Hills and Andhari sanctuary covers Moharli and Kolsa ranges. Thick forests are relieved by smooth meadow and deep valleys as the terrain slopes from north to south. Cliffs, talus and caves provide salubrious shelter for several animals. The two forested rectangles are formed of Tadoba and Andhari range. The presence of Tadoba Lake at the park brings perfect biological diversity with great foliages.
Tigers, Leopards, gaurs, nilgais, sambars and chitals are the common species in this park. Besides, leopard cat, Indian Wild dog, sloth bear, hyena, wild boar, spotted dear, barking deer, blue bull, four-horned antelope, Indian Pangolin and porcupine are the wild animals of this park.
